Descripción
In this work by Alexandra Martínez Cánchica, a much-needed political revision of liberalism is systematically and historically presented. The classic conservative view of Hamilton, Burke, or Tocqueville is combined with the realistic approach of Vilfredo Pareto, Gaetano Mosca, Carl Schmitt, Julien Freund, or, more recently, the Spaniards Dalmacio Negro and Jerónimo Molina Cano, whose reflections, frequently consulted by the author, are extraordinarily pertinent for the attempt to understand the present situation. They are, among others, including classical liberals and ordoliberals, representatives of that other archic, sad, or simply non ridens liberalism, as Carlo Gambescia says, which opposes the depoliticizing multitude of liberal economicism. From the political warning, formulated by Martínez Cánchica with the naturalness of a seasoned realist, that socialism is not a problem of poor economic education, but rather of poor political education of liberals; one can deduce a political corollary of insurmountable laconicism and truth: Liberalism fails because it abandons politics.
