El arte de las putas is a poem by Nicolás Fernández de Moratín, classified within the genre of erotic literature and which circulated exclusively in a clandestine form until more than a century after it was written. Composed in the early 1770s, it was not published during the author's lifetime but more than a century after its creation, due to the strict censorship imposed by the Spanish Inquisition, which included it as a prohibited book in the 1790 edition of the Index Librorum Prohibitorum. This did not prevent the literary circles of the time from praising Moratín's work. It is, therefore, an anecdote that relates the adventures of the night workers of a thriving Bourbon Madrid. It is not a classic erotic work, El arte de las putas, it is a poignant and sarcastic image.
