Descripción
The Year of the Ox has begun! Today is a very special day for Meihui. Through her family, we will learn what it means to be an ox and all its characteristics.
In North America and Europe, the new year is celebrated on January 1st. But in other parts of the world, like in Asia, they follow the lunisolar calendar, so the date varies each year. It can take place between January 21st and February 20th, with 12-year cycles, and a different animal representing each year.
Our story takes us to a faraway place where animals have created a system of equity to govern their community. Instead of a king, queen, prime minister, or president, they have a family that leads the group for an entire lunar year. The order in which these animal families serve the community was determined long ago by their friend Buddha, who organized a dinner. Only 12 animals attended the event, and for this reason, their years of celebration are ordered according to when the animals arrived at the party, from the first to the last. So every 12 years, one of them gets to lead and serve their community.
