Descripción
The Secret of the Golden Flower is a Chinese Taoist work on meditation, which was translated by Richard Wilhelm. Wilhelm was a friend of the psychologist Carl Gustav Jung. Despite the diversity of impressions, interpretation and opinion expressed by Wilhelm and Jung, the meditation technique described in The Secret of the Golden Flower is a simple, silent technique (the book's description of meditation has been characterized as Zen with details). The meditation technique, enunciated in poetic language, is reduced to a formula on posture, breathing and contemplation. Posture primarily relates to an upright position. The path of energy associated with breathing has been described as similar to an internal wheel vertically aligned with the spine. When breathing is constant, the wheel spins forward, with vital energy increasing in the back and descending in the front. Bad breathing habits (or bad posture, or even bad thoughts) can cause the wheel not to spin, or to go backward, inhibiting the circulation of essential vital energy. In contemplation, thoughts are observed as they arise and recede.
