Scott Westerfeld es un conocido autor de ciencia ficción. Nació en el estado de Texas (5 de Mayo de 1963) y ahora vive entre Sídney y Nueva York. En 2004 presentó Midnighters, la primera novela que le supuso reconocimiento internacional, pero ha sido la tetralogía «Uglies» lo que le ha consagrado definitivamente como best seller mundial. El primer título de la saga fue galardonado con el premio de la Asociación Americana de Libreros al mejor libro juvenil del 2006 y con el Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire francés al mejor libro juvenil de 2008.
