Descripción
The Tempest is one of the last plays composed by William Shakespeare. Far from being exhausted or diminished, his theatrical genius unfolded in it with surprising dramatic and poetic creativity. A fabulous and sad story, of betrayal and forgiveness at the same time, a romance through which notable characters parade on an enchanted island of subtle climate and rare nature, where events come together to produce a magnificent totality, a perfect scenic illusion. This translation, which follows the academic standards currently in use for the edition of Shakespeare's works, constitutes an effort to recover the genuine artistic talent of the English playwright not only for the theater of our countries, but also for its teaching. Fidelity to the original text of 1623 tries to reproduce with greater precision the singularities and the particular writing style of the work. The introduction accounts for the characteristics of Elizabethan theater, the problems surrounding the text we preserve of The Tempest, and refers to its long and debated interpretative history while proposing and re-proposing some fundamental hermeneutical questions. The text is accompanied by abundant philological and explanatory notes, regarding various linguistic, theatrical and historical discussions.
