Descripción
"The table is round. Made of mahogany and barely big enough to hold a gray rotary phone. I look up; at this age, you have to look up to see anyone. My brother and I anxiously listen as our father speaks into the receiver. My gaze shifts from one to the other while I struggle to understand what's happening. I just turned five. This day will mark the end of my childhood." Passion is never wrong, but it can be misguided. As revenge against his wife, a man kidnaps their children and flees with them to a succession of foreign countries, setting off a war between two powerful families determined to cling to wealth and power at any cost. Only five years old at the time, the daughter is swept up in whirlwind of dueling loves and hates, vengeance and protection, and contradictory demands: to hate the ones she loves the most, and trust those who lie to her. In this bewildering new reality, she struggles to understand that some loves are impossible, some lives aren't normal, some hatreds have no escape, and the only absolute truth is that unconditional love is full of conditions.
