Yago is talking to Rodrigo, who confesses that he is in love with Desdemona and reproaches Yago that his advice has been useless in getting close to his beloved. Yago, in turn, is furious with Othello because he has not appointed him his lieutenant but Cassio. Rodrigo warns Brabantio, Desdemona's father, that she has eloped with Othello. Elsewhere, shortly after, Yago tells Othello that he has been on the verge of killing Brabantio several times because the latter spoke ill of him. Cassio arrives to summon Othello before the Venetian Senate to receive command of an expedition to Cyprus against the Turks. While there, Brabantio accuses him of deceptively seducing his daughter, but Othello tells his whole story and has Desdemona called to declare if she does not follow him of her own free will. Yago then incites Rodrigo to gather money and follow Othello to win Desdemona when she tires of her "Moor," which he claims is inevitable.
